Forum on the Proposed Freedom of Information Act (FOI Act)

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP)-ZAMBASULTA Chapter in collaboration with Communication Department and Social Sciences Department of the School of Liberal Arts, will host a Forum on the Proposed Freedom of Information Act (FOI Act) on September 28, 2012; from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Campion Lecture Hall of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University-Fr. Eusebio Salvador SJ Campus.

The said bill is currently pending at the House of Representatives. The bill is anchored on the constitutional provisions on our right to information (Art. III, Sec. 7) as well as on our State principle on full public disclosure of transactions involving public interests(Art. II, Sec. 28). However, the present administration has yet to act on it and the upcoming electoral process might further deter its passage.

The FOI Public Forum will provide attendees an opportunity to hear speakers share insights and important information about the FOI House Bill. This forum will allow the audience to get a heightened appreciation of the right to information and value of transparency to ensure good governance in a democratic republic.

It will also provide a channel for the exchange of ideas and positions among the participating groups. An exhibit contiguous to the Forum’s venue will be displayed featuring more information about the bill.
